Home security systems…Are the hidden costs worth it?

Does having a home security system cost you money? When I read articles about the cost of something it's usually talking about huge sums of moneies and covering a specific topic using generalities. This should not be the case, yes there are many “false alarms” going off but what about the 1-6% of calls that are not?

Can you put a price on individual security? We don't think so, and besides, we are paying the police force to “serve and protect”. It's a service provided on “false alarms” but it's protection when there really is an intruder.

Check out Stephen Dubner's opinion

Freakonomics co-author Stephen Dubner recently visited the Marketplace to sound off on whether Americans misplace their faith in home alarm systems.

Dubner seems to think so, pointing to data that shows between 94 and 99 percent of home sirens blaring around the country are triggered by false alarms.

Most of that is chalked up to human error, but inclement weather and malfunctioning technology contribute to the issue as well. Regardless, local police spend a whopping $2 billion per responding to false alarms each year….

Security cameras that are internet ready are a great way of monitoring your home or business since.  You can see all that is going on in and around your property from anywhere in the world that you have internet access.

Security surveillance cameras that are equipped with motion sensors give them the capability of detecting movements.  Even the slightest movement can trigger these motion sensors to initiate the video recording process.

Digital Security Surveillance Cameras

Digital security cameras are much smaller.  They are capable of recording video for a long period of time.  The video images can be stored in a computer.  They have grown in popularity because they have eliminated the need for video tapes.

The presence of security camera systems has helped in deterring crime.  This fact, coupled with the fact that security cameras have become much more affordable has made security surveillance camera systems more popular than ever with home and business owners.

The importance of residential security camera systems has become greater and greater.  Lots of intruders are wary of security cameras. They are well aware that they can be easily found by the law if they are “caught on film”.

Home Security companies offer installation and alarm monitoring of home security systems

A few criteria that are taken into account in home security system reviews are the training of their personnel, their response time, and how easy their systems are to use.

Well trained personnel make all the difference in how well systems are installed and how well you, the customer is taught to use it.  Quality security companies should provide in-depth training for all of their employees equipping them to do both.

A rapid response time is important when your family members and personal property are at risk.  Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, security companies can quickly contact appropriate emergency response agencies.  Home and business owners should be rest assured that the monitoring that they are paying for is active and alert.

Even the best home security systems will do you no good if your family members can’t operate them.  Many consumers install elaborate home security systems or surveillance systems only to discover that operating them is much too complicated.

Security company systems should feature easy to use one touch keypads.  Everyone in your family, including your children and the elderly should be able to easily use the keypads with your home security system.
